Taiwan Recognizes 41 Mainland Universities to Recruit 2000 Mainland Students Every Year
China News Service, August 20. The "Three Laws for Terrestrial Students" that opened up mainland students to study in Taiwan was amended and passed in the third reading of the Taiwan legislature on the afternoon of the 19th, but still imposed "one limit and two no". Regarding the mainland academic certification, the "985 Project" schools such as Peking University and Tsinghua University and 3 other schools were initially recognized, totaling 41 schools. The "Three Laws on Land Students" refer to the Regulations on Cross-Strait People's Relations, the University Law, and the Junior College School Law. If Taiwan wants to open up mainland students to study in Taiwan, it needs to amend the above three bills. Taiwan's legislature passed the amendment to the "Three Laws on Land Students". Taiwan will officially recognize mainland academic qualifications and open up mainland students to study in Taiwan's colleges and universities. The revised "three laws on land students" clearly stipulates "one limit and two nos": the recognition of medical qualifications is restricted, mainland students are not allowed to apply for "security secrets" related institutes, and non-Taiwanese students are not allowed to take the civil service examination. The incidental resolution proposed by the Democratic Progressive Party and League stated that Lu Sheng "shall not engage in activities inconsistent with the permitted purpose in accordance with Article 10, Item 2 of the Regulations on Cross-Strait Relations," and shall not engage in full-time or part-time work inside and outside the school. Taiwan's education authorities plan to publish and implement relevant measures in September, including the "draft measures for mainland students to study and stay in Taiwan" and the "draft amendment to the measures for checking and recognizing academic qualifications in the mainland". Regarding the mainland academic certification, the "985 Project" schools such as Peking University and Tsinghua University and 3 other schools were initially recognized, totaling 41 schools, and the plan was "non-retroactive.
The total number of students enrolled in Taiwan is limited to about 2000, while the outlying islands adopt the project application mode and are not subject to the total number of 2000.
